Backyard Boulevard

Inspired, authentic singing. Evocative, quirky stories. Irresistible groove. Memorable melodies, often with a we-really-mean-it invitation to sing along. Inventive instrumentals. The undeniable magic of musical friends at play. These are the things Backyard Boulevard aspires to bring to the stage.

Although individually they've toured internationally and headlined at major festivals, for now the band tends to keep it local - they've got jobs, and young families. So they're happy playing street parties from Oaklands to James Bay, and at festivals and folk clubs around the island. If you've seen them, you know that the moment they take the stage, Backyard Boulevard reminds us just how good real folk music can be.

Robert Anderson (vocals, guitar, bouzouki), James Anstey (banjo), Susan Ellenton (vocals, accordion, melodion), Mark Johnson (bass), Blair Mitchell (percussion).

Blackberry Jam

Backyard Boulevard

For me, one of the best things about Covid was connecting with our musical neighbours and starting this band, Backyard Boulevard. Our new album, Behind the Blue Door, features Blackberry Jam and explains why we had to repaint the kitchen!
